Reale Auseinandersetzungen entwickeln sich (wenn man die Zeichen von vorbereitendem Angriffsverhalten nicht kennt) oftmals aus dem Nichts, schnell und dynamisch. Dabei unterteilen wir in zwei zentrale „Angriffskategorien“ bei physischen Übergriffen. Den „SPONTANEN“ (absolut überraschenden) Angriff oder den „ERWARTETEN“ Angriff.
Erkennen kann ich den emotionalen Angriff an den Aussagen meines Gegenübers. Eventuell kündigt er den Angriff an, provoziert mich verbal oder ich werde sogar vor eine Situation gestellt mit mehreren Angreifern oder sogar bewaffneten Angreifern. Angriffe sind für jeden Menschen emotional stark belastend! Es kommt zu Angstgefühlen und zur Verzweiflung „Warum ich…? Warum jetzt…?“, oftmals auch im etwas späteren Stadium zu Aggressionen, Wut und Trauer aber auch dem Gefühl von Freude. Wir wollen in unseren Seminaren schulen, diese Emotion als positiven Lernprozess zuzulassen und davon zu profitieren. Angst gehört als „dominante“ Emotion bei realen Angriffen dazu. 
Wir lernen im Szenarientraininig mit dieser Angst oder dem Stress umzugehen und auf reale Situationen besser vorbereitet zu sein. Physische Auslöser im Körper (zitternde Knie, zitternde Hände, hohe Nervosität, Panikgefühle) sind ein Teil dieser Angst und normale Effekte. Dies trifft aber nicht ausschließlich für den Verteidiger zu, sondern oftmals auch für den Angreifer.
Eine wichtige Voraussetzung für effektive Selbstverteidigung ist es, sich im Umgang mit emotionalen Angriffen zu schulen, diese früh zu erkennen und darauf vorbereitet zu sein. Oftmals lässt sich in diesem Stadium die physische Auseinandersetzung noch umgehen.
